London Marathon 2026 | Sawe interview and reaction after historic day

Hannah and Rich look back at what will go down as one of the most historic days in athletics - the moment not just one, but two athletes broke the sub-2 hour marathon mark for the first time in official race conditions.

We hear from Sabastian Sawe, who blitzed a 1:59:30 to win by nine seconds ahead of a remarkable debut over the distance from Yomif Kejelcha, with Jacob Kiplimo breaking the former world record too.

On the women’s side, Tigst Assefa shaved nine more seconds off the women’s only world record she claimed in 2025, holding off a challenge from Hellen Obiri and Jocyline Jepkosgei.
